About Jarvis Green

Oceans 97 owner and president, Jarvis Green, began his career in the shrimp industry after completing a successful career as an NFL defensive lineman.

Green grew up in the small town of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, with his parents, Pernell and Marion, brother, Aaron, twin brother and sister, Shannon and Shannah, and his twin brother Jason.

Upon graduating from Donaldsonville High School, where he established himself as one of the best defensive high school players in the state, he was recruited by LSU where he became a standout defensive lineman on the Tigers defense. Green is fourth all-time in total sacks at LSU with 20, and holds the freshman record for most sacks in a single season with eight.

But, business was always on his mind, and he let nothing deter him from completing his degree in Construction Engineering at LSU. Then, the New England Patriots drafted Green in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft and he became an integral member of the team’s defense including their Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX Championships.

While playing in the NFL, Green maintained his focus on his ultimate interest in entering the business world. In addition to owning a restaurant in his hometown of Donaldsonville, he held various internships in the New England area, including with Rolls Royce’s marine division, and completed a two-year internship program with Atwells Restaurant Group, located in Providence, Rhode Island, where he focused on learning the management aspects of the hotel and restaurant business.

Following his retirement from the NFL in 2010 he lived briefly in Denver and did some work in real estate both in Colorado and North Dakota. Then, Green was introduced to the shrimp industry on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana when he owed a favor to a friend. He was immediately captivated and learned the business from the ground up. Green performed every possible task from de-heading and de-veining shrimp to cleaning bathrooms. He also worked as a salesman/broker at a shrimp processor and wholesaler, and ultimately became an accepted member of the Gulf Coast shrimping community. In 2015 Green started Oceans 97 (the 97 is a nod to his Patriots jersey number).

In addition to Oceans 97, Green also runs the Jarvis Green Foundation, which he launched in 2006. The foundation, which has numerous partners in New England, focuses on children and teaching them how to have an overall healthy lifestyle, including what they eat, as well as providing resources to single mothers who have been affected by natural disasters.

Green has a son and two daughters, and divides his time between Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Providence, Rhode Island.

About Oceans 97

Oceans 97, a National Minority Supply Diversity Chain Company, began in 2015, the vision of its owner and president, former New England Patriots defensive lineman Jarvis Green, who entered the shrimp business after his retirement from the NFL.

The company’s first entrée into the shrimp industry was as a wholesale distributor of shrimp in partnership with companies like Dole & Bailey – founded in 1850 – currently the oldest butcher in North America. Through the relationship with Dole & Bailey, Oceans 97 shrimp is distributed to major financial institutions throughout New England and other products remain available in multiple grocery retail locations around the country. In just two years, Oceans 97 experienced rapid growth and in July 2017 launches a line of its own value-added shrimp products, which debut on QVC via both their television programming and www.QVC.com.

This new, gourmet line features easy-to-cook meals of shrimp packaged in bags, with four flavors of sauce to choose from: New Orleans Style BBQ, Cajun Curry, Chimichurri, and Garlic Butter.  The shrimp is domestic, wild caught, Gulf of Mexico shrimp, caught by US Gulf Coast fisherman and processed in Louisiana.  The product ships in dry ice directly to the customer and arrives ready for cooking a delicious and satisfying family meal or when entertaining.

In June 2017, the company was solicited by Walmart to present its products for consideration as a future vendor.

Over the years, Oceans 97 has been included in numerous cooking demonstrations at various locations, among them many retail locations, as well as at Boston Children’s Hospital and North Shore Medical Center Union Hospital (Lynn, MA). It has also been featured at approximately 50 food and beverage shows, including the New England Food Show, Newport (RI) Wine and Food Festival, Nantucket Wine & Food Festival, Taste of Napa, Associated Wholesale Grocers Food Show, the H-E-B Wine Walk. Oceans 97 was also featured when Green participated in Season Two of FOX’s wildly popular Master Chef television series.

With Green at the helm, Oceans 97 has become a leader in educating people about the benefits of supporting the local economy, U.S. fishermen, and ways of eating cleaner.

Oceans 97 products reflect Green’s commitment to locally sourced, natural and healthy eating. The new value-added line features freshly grown produce as well as no dyes, fillers or artificial flavors.
